“The Broken Ones”

A battered rag doll sitting alone
in the dusty corner,
memories of love from a child.

A splintered wooden trainset,
off the circular track
in a little boy's fanciful heart.

Unrequited teenage love,
angst sincere
amid confused fractured souls.

These things sincerely broken,
some mended by time,
others shattered beyond repair.

We are the lovers of time
risking it all,
or nothing and losing in the end.

What is the common factor
in something broken,
love's amazing healing power.

The belief that time heals all,
in the dire hopes
that love's severed crimson artery,

can be healed by an embrace
so true of spirit,
it will mend broken in the human soul.
