“Run Silent, Run Deep”

Alone, running along quiet county roads,
an itinerary includes cool water to soothe
the pounding in my head.

Sweat pounding on my brow
begins to flow into weary eyes of morning.

Keeping pace with the wind
was easier when there was two of us.

Now I run stride for stride
with your memorable shadow so elegant.

You were my inspiration into a wide
electric world of total passionate dreams,
muscles strain, breaths heavier,
as wandering thoughts grasp my heart.

One more turn in the road, one more mile.

The aching in my body
reminds me of our sultry rendezvous
upon the hill under the mosaic sunset.

I am not running to forget,
I am running to you, to where your soul rests
upon the hill, where crosses bear
the spirits of the ages.

The moon rises now,
bathing our sacred place in brightness.

I am still running, running, silently running.
